Donald Trump Posts $2 Million Bond in Fulton County Election Investigation

Trump's Upcoming Court Date

Former President Donald Trump posted a $2 million bond on Thursday in connection with the Fulton County, Georgia, investigation into possible interference in the 2020 election. Trump is scheduled to appear in court on May 24 for a hearing on the charges against him.

Charges Against Trump

Trump is facing charges of solicitation of election fraud and conspiracy to commit election fraud. The charges stem from a phone call Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Jan. 2, 2021, in which Trump allegedly pressured Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to overturn the election results in Georgia.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has called the investigation a "witch hunt." However, prosecutors have said they have evidence that Trump pressured Raffensperger to change the election results.

Potential Consequences

If convicted, Trump could face significant prison time. The maximum penalty for solicitation of election fraud is five years in prison, and the maximum penalty for conspiracy to commit election fraud is 10 years in prison.

However, it is important to note that Trump is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He has the right to a fair trial, and it is possible that the charges against him could be dismissed or that he could be acquitted.
